Contour support

Write to a person, not a form. There is no ticket system and no bot. Mail goes to the person who made the instrument.

Write to zhi@nonoaudio.com. I read everything.

Tell me your device, the iOS version and, for the AUv3, the host app.

Questions

Is Contour Pro a subscription?

No. Contour Pro is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. It is tied to your Apple Account, works on every device signed into it. What Pro unlocks.

Where is Contour in my host?

Installing Contour also installs an AUv3 instrument plug-in. It appears in any host that loads Audio Units — GarageBand, Logic Pro, AUM, Cubasis, Drambo, and others — under nono.audio: Contour. Load it as an instrument, not an effect. More in As an AUv3.

Why is there no REC control in the plug-in?

The plug-in does not own the transport — recording is the host's job there, which is why the REC control is absent.

Why does a sheet sound like a room with SPACE at zero?

The space is part of the timbre itself. Some corners come from acoustic instruments recorded with a microphone in a room, and a decoder learns whatever was in front of it. SPACE is a separate reverb, added afterwards, and at zero it is genuinely off. The full answer is in Troubleshooting.

Why doesn't the ribbon cover a full keyboard?

Each sheet has its own pitch range, set by what its four corners were actually trained on. The ribbon shows that range rather than a fixed keyboard, because asking a decoder outside its range does not merely sound wrong — it answers with noise.

Can I play Contour in landscape?

Portrait only on iPhone. Landscape does not leave enough vertical room for the board without squeezing it below a usable size.

What to include

Contour's Settings panel has the same address at the bottom. Tapping it opens mail with the app version and the sheet you are currently on already in the subject line — worth using, because “the sound is wrong” means eleven different things across eleven sheets.

  • Which sheet — its code, S-01 through S-11, or the name in the menu
  • Whether it happened in the app or in the Audio Unit, and if the latter, which host
  • Your iOS version and device
  • If it is about sound: roughly where on the board your finger was, and what pitch the ribbon was resting on

Restoring a purchase

Open Settings — the mark at the top right of the sheet, three short lines — and choose RESTORE PURCHASE. Restore is always available there, whether or not Pro currently shows as unlocked.

You should rarely need it. Contour asks the App Store about your entitlement every time it launches, so a reinstall, a new device, or a purchase made elsewhere normally unlocks on its own.
