Choke groups.
Put two lanes in one group and a new hit silences the other, the way a closed hat stops an open one.
Put two lanes in the same choke group and a new hit silences the other: a closed hat stopping an open one, exactly the way a real kit behaves. Without a group, every lane rings out on its own, and long sounds pile up on top of each other.
Select a lane, open the Sound tab and step Choke from Off to Group 1, Group 2, Group 3 or Group 4. Do the same on the lanes it should cut. A hit on any lane in a group cuts every other lane in that group.
In a new beat, Closed Hat and Open Hat already share group 1. Set them to Off if you want the open hat to ring through.
- The cut is a short fade of about five milliseconds, not a hard stop, so it doesn't click.
- Two lanes in a group that hit at the same moment both sound. A choke only cuts a sound that is still ringing when the new hit arrives.
- It works on the built-in kits and on samples you imported yourself.
- Groups belong to the lane, not to the pattern, so they hold in all eight patterns.
Inside a host, when the Orbeat plug-in cuts a lane, it also sends that lane's note-off, so the instrument it plays stops too. The standalone app closes every note it sends after a short gate anyway.
Choke groups are free for everyone.
