Patterns, A to H.
Eight patterns per beat, switched by tapping or from a controller, without the sequencer ever restarting.
Every project holds eight patterns, A to H, in the row of cells under the circle. Switch by tapping, or from a controller: send a program change, or a note, and Orbeat changes pattern without you touching the screen.
The sequencer never restarts, so a switch mid-phrase stays in time with everything else you have running.
A pattern is a rhythm. Each one keeps its own steps, generator mode, Euclid settings, probability, swing and lane lengths. Everything else is shared by all eight: the kit, your samples, each lane's pan, tune and choke group, and the MIDI note and channel each lane sends. Only the rhythm changes, so switching stays instant and never reloads a sound.
Lanes are shared too. Add a seventh lane and it appears in every pattern, empty in the ones you haven't written it into yet.
A pattern you haven't touched starts blank. The cells show which ones have something in them: the playing pattern is filled in coral, patterns with steps in them are brighter than empty ones.
Tap a cell and the switch waits for the right moment. While it waits, the cell flashes. You choose the moment: press and hold the row of cells and pick one.
| Choice | The new pattern starts |
|---|---|
Switch instantly | right away |
Switch on the beat | on the next beat |
Switch on the bar | on the next bar (the default) |
The choice belongs to the beat and is saved with the project, so a beat built for instant switching keeps it.
Pattern A is free. B to H carry a padlock without Orbeat Pro, and tapping one opens the Pro screen; once you unlock, you land on the pattern you tapped. Program changes and pattern notes for B to H are ignored until then. Choke groups and the MIDI maps are free.
