A few extras

An experimental sampler, MIDI out, sync to an external clock, and a calmer background.

Verified for version 1.1.0 · Updated October 15, 2026

In Settings (the gear at the top right) you will find an experimental sampler, MIDI out and sync to an external clock, and a switch for the animated background. There is also a way to re-run the first-time walkthrough inside the app whenever you like.

Matcha Studio
Opens Studio. See Matcha Studio.
Sampler (experimental)
Replace the FM synth with Fairlight CMI samples. Toggle off to A/B against the original. When it is on, you can pick the sample for each voice, the bass and each drum.
MIDI out
Broadcast notes, drums, and clock to other apps.
Sync to external clock
Route MIDI clock from another app or hardware into Matcha. Tempo and transport follow the source.
Animated background
The reactive ink-wash behind the keys. Turn off to freeze it as a still wash (saves battery).
Show the intro again
Re-run the first-time walkthrough.

MIDI

Matcha shows up in other apps as a MIDI source and a MIDI destination, both called Matcha.

  • Out: with MIDI out on, Matcha sends clock, start and stop, plus the drums on channel 10 (kick 36, snare 38, hat 42, ride 51) and the bass on channel 2. The chords of a saved loop or a song go out on channel 1 as they play back.
  • In: with Sync to external clock on, Matcha follows clock, start, continue and stop from the source. It does not play notes it receives.

Privacy

Matcha collects no data and works entirely offline; the Studio purchase is handled by Apple and needs no account — see the privacy policy. If something is not clear or not working, Support is one message away.
